My Story

When I met Fred I was dating his first "dad".  We stopped dating but stayed very good friends.  When he lost his place to live I took Fred "until he found someplace to live".  Three months later he had a place to live, but I was sooo in love with Fred and I really needed him.  There was a large dog in my friends new home and we agreed Fred was happy with me and he could come see him anytime.  For the next three months every night when I came home to what used to be an empty room, I was greeted by this beautiful gray cat standing on my bed fluffed up and talking to me.  I dated a couple of guys here and there in the six months, and he let me know who he didn't like.  Pretty much everyone.  When I met the man who would become my husband and his "Daddy" he was slow to become friends, but he never acted like he didn't like him.  After awhile he came to love Hugh as much as I do.  We were a family, just the three of us for a long time.  When Hugh joined the Marines and went away to bootcamp, Fred stopped eating for about a week, then gradually started again, but he looked for daddy all the time.  We moved to Oceanside when hugh got stationed at Pendleton and we were there for a long time.  Everytime Hugh deployed we went through the not eating thing, but he continued to lose weight.  Even when Daddy came home and I was getting scared, he was 12 years old and normaly a 15lb cat.  When I took him to the vet cuz the weight wasn't coming back, he was 6.2lbs.  After many tests we found out he had Hyperthyroid and would need to take pills everyday for the rest of his life.  Well, I'm the only one who could give him pills without getting seriously hurt, so we didn't go home to visit much after that.  When Hugh was getting ready for another deployment I got a Guinea Pig, Petie, Fred didn't ever show much intrest in him, unless I was holding him, then he wanted to be loved too.  There was enough of me to share so it was OK.   All the time Hugh has wanted to get a dog, and we were waiting, cuz Fred was Old and we weren't sure if how he would deal.  Well, at 15 and 12lbs and healthy as all get out, I figure, he'll just have to deal.  So we looked for a long time and found Dora, a 40lb mixed breed.  Fred didn't like her much and she just wanted to play with him.  He liked to tease her when she was in her kennel by walking past her slow and going in the kitchen and drinking out of her water bowl.  He would usually run and hide when she was out in the living room, but one day he just stopped and turned around and hissed at her.  She ran back to her kennel, he had my whole bedroom to himself, she wasn't allowed in there.  He was my best friend, I loved him sooo much.  I still miss him terribly.
