My Story

Max was the first horse I ever owned. He was a present from my grandparents on my eleventh birthday. He was rescued from a horrible person who beat and starved animals. In more ways than I can count I owe Max for making me into the person I am today. He taught me patience, responsibility, how to love, what a true friend was, and pretty much everything I know about horses.  Even though I was too big to ride Max he was still such a big part of my life. I think back to the first time I saw him, how shaken and scared of people he was, and then I see that Bombproof pony who would let anything happen to him and he wouldn't spook... it doesn't seem possible that it was the same pony. He was a broken pony in need of a broken girl. If I was ever upset I would just run to him and grab ahold of his shaggy long red hair and cry, without saying a word he somehow could sooth even the worst of moments. He was always into trouble, but I would trust Max with my life. If the occasion ever did come around where he would get out, he would always stay in the yard and even come up to the back door to my parents house and look in thought the window like "Ok i've eaten all the grass I want is there anyone there who can put me back?" He was like a dog. I remember my dad bringing him into our house in the middle of winter to trim his feet because it was too cold out. And I remember the first year I was going to take Max to the fair. We almost missed the deadline because we couldn't get a trailer to haul him, but that didn't stop us. My dad loaded that pony up into our old ambulance that we used as a service van, and drove him to the fair just in time. When we got to the vet check, the vets all gathered around and asked what the emergency was. They all but fell over laughing when they saw we had a pony in the back of an ambulance. I always said Max had a heart the size of a horse. He believed he was a horse and if he had been a horse and I was able to ride him I can only imagine how much more trouble we would have gotten into together. He was my best friend, and he will never fade from my memory, and he will always be in my heart. I LOVE YOU MAXIE BOY!!! :,-)
