My Story

Little Roland, about 3 mos. old,  was dropped off at a 24 hr. grocery store my son Ron, worked at on m/n shift.   He brought Roland home, and after Ron moved out a year later, Roland and I became best buddies.   We took walks several nites a week, until I retired 8 years ago.   Then, walks became a nightly thing, rain or shine.   Roland really looked forward to the walks, and would start pacing the hallway, about 8 every evening.  About 4 years ago, he had a series of epileptic seizures in the summer.    The vet couldn't find a cause for these, but this caused him to become deaf..   This really didn't affect his life much, as he started responding to hand signals.   As the years went on, I knew Roland was getting old, and I really didn't want to think about the fact that I'd be loosing my best buddy some day.  The end came very fast,.....diagnosed with a cyst on the side of prostate in January, surgery to remove it Feb 8th, and confirming that a biopsy taken during surgery was malignant a few days later.    My best buddy had to be euthanized March 11, as he was in great pain in his left rear leg from the cancer.   We were, and will always be, "pals forever."
