My Story

Sam entered my life when I was 15 as an adorable 6 week old Golden Retriever puppy.  We couldn't have asked for a sweeter more intelligent dog and I quickly volunteered to take him for his walks and he spent most nights hogging my bed whilst I was left teetering on the edge. 

He was 12 when his health started to deteriorate and as much as we knew he had had a fantastic life it was so difficult to let him go.  As the days went by he suddenly started to go downhill rapidly and was coughing frequently and was listless.  As he left with my parents for the vets I knew the end was inevitable and I remember just sitting in my hallway with my arms around him. sobbing, as I said goodbye.  He just lay down after this and just looked at me and I knew that he was ready to go,  He never returned from the vets and we later learnt that he had a very enlarged heart which was blocking his airway.

This was over three years ago and remembering what happened that day still makes me cry.  I miss him desperately even now and there is a void in my life where he used to be.  I know he's in a better place and is running around chasing squirrels but I would give anything just to see him again. 

Rest in peace Sam - you'll be with us always xx
