My Story

Hi, my name is Bailey & this is my story...

On Monday 24th June 1996 Mum first saw me in a pet shop when I was just 7 weeks old & only the size of a guinea pig.

I was all alone, very frightened & looking back at her with my sad eyes. I knew as soon as she held me I would be going home with her...   Yipeee!!

Mum already had another dog, a blue heeler named Heeler & I absolutely adored her. I would try surfing on her back & she taught me the joys of the park, car rides, the beach & swimming in the ocean.

There was also a mean cat at home named Snoopy, I didn't like him at all cause he dragged me under a bed & tried to kill me when Mum took me home. He thought I was a rat - Stupid cat!!

On Monday 18th November 1996 Leroy came to live with us too.
A maltese terrier cross & only a few months old, he seemed lost & was wandering the streets alone. We two boys hit it off immediately & soon became best buddies for over 10 years.

Mum adopted many other pets through the years & always gave them food, companionship & lots of love until she found them new homes. I can still remember Tazzie, Lucy, Lilly, Betsybunny, Molly, Lucky just to name a few & you can view some pics on my photo page...

Mum often talked fondly about a cat named Foofur who had died in 1995. Sadly he got hit by a car aged 3. Apparently, he thought he was a dog & did lots of funny things - hey, maybe even I would have liked that cat!!

Our beautiful Heeler died in 2001 & even though she was pretty old & sick we all missed her dearly.

One day Snoopy came home with his eye & ear missing - Mum took him to the vet but he never came home again. Can't say I missed him though - hey, did ya finally pick on someone bigger than you, hey cat???

On Tuesday 9th January 2007 Leroy & I went for a ride to the shop in Mum's car & then did our usual laps round & round the back yard. Ten minutes into our morning nap poor Leroy aged 10 died suddenly in Mum's arms. Me & my Mum missed him terribly, Mum said it was his heart & kept crying.  I looked for him around the back yard for days, thinking he may have just been hiding from us. I eventually found him, even tried digging him up!! I really just wanted him to play with me again. My Mum was quite cross with me but I just didn't understand why he wouldn't wake up, so she forgave me with a loving cuddle.

Later that year Mum & me drove her car from Melbourne to Cairns to live. It was a very long drive & soooo boring, except for me barking at the cows. I was very, very brave - even if the car windows were shut!!

I quite liked Cairns but it was very hot for me. I drank heaps of water & gained alot of weight. I eventually didn't feel like going for walks or to the beach anymore & spent most days laying on the patio. Mum thought I was lonely so she brought home a little grey & white kitten named Buster from the RSPCA for companionship. He's really annoying, he thinks that I'm his Mum & tries to get milk from my tummy!!  Another stupid cat... but this one's kind of cute too - when he's asleep, that is!!

I still didn't feel very well though & after heaps of needles & tests at the vet I was diagnosed with diabetes. Mum had to give me insulin injections twice a day. I knew she really hated doing this to me but she was very gentle & always gave me a little treat afterwards.

It was Saturday 7th June 2008 when I woke up at night & couldn't breathe properly.  I was so miserable so the vet came early morning of Sunday 8th June 2008. Mum was crying & cuddling me on her bed. She told me I would just get sleepy & would be seeing Leroy again very soon - Goodnight Mummy...

Mum's Poem for Leroy & Me -

My boys...

They knew when I was happy & they knew when I was sad
They gave me warmth & comfort when times for me were bad
Their unconditional love & loyalty is something I cannot explain
They both brought me so much happiness, sometimes sacrifice & pain

And now I live without them both & this was definately not the plan
You see, they'd both been in my life much longer than any man
I miss you guys so much my friends, for you both I'll have my tears
Hope you'll be there waiting for me, in about another 20 years!!
