My Story

One day at school I was sitting around upstairs when my friend Nathalie came and said "Hey there is a big guinea pig downstairs!".  I immediately ran down there and fell in love with the little guy.  His nails were horribly overgrown and he desperately needed a bath.

I spoke to a girl who worked at the shelter that he had come from and she informed me that he was just there for a class to work on him and he was up for adoption. The fee was $20.00 and he came with a bunch of supplies.

So after wrestling with the decision of yes or no for a few days I finally decided I would take him.  I called the shelter to ask about him and see if he was still available, he was.   I asked if they knew anything about him they had a guess of his age and a creative name of Guinea.   I mentioned the supplies and was now told by a different person I wasn't allowed to have any of them.  My thoughts were obviously his owners wanted him to have his stuff...why would you not let it come with him to a new home.  But oh well i figured, I had a cage and extra supplies so I didn't really need the stuff.

I made arrangements to drive up there to pick him up..  As  I got nearer I realized that I had no clue where this place was, so I started trying to call to get a hold of the workers to get directions...No one answered.  I began to panic thinking that maybe I had the wrong day or that they had forgotten I would be coming to get him.

I stopped at a gas station and asked for directions and was back on my way.

When I arrived there was only one car in the parking lot so I went to the door, door was locked.  Needless to say I was now upset and a little ticked off.

Suddenly, a worker showed up in the doorway and explained to me that they don't answer the phone on that day because they aren't really open on  this day but they are there for other things.  So I grabbed my little man and put him in the carrier I brought.  Once he was mine I thought for hours of names, and eventually decided on Duncan, it was very fitting.

The next day I got a call from the girl that I went to school with telling me to come get all the supplies and stuff because I could have them, she was overriding the other woman saying it was stupid of he to not let me have the stuff because his old owners clearly wanted him to have them.  I drove up there immediately and picked up all of his stuff.

Over the next few months Duncan really came out of his shell, he was neutered and now allowed to play with his little sisters.  In October he gained another new sister who would eventually become the Robin to his Batman.  Her name was Tini.

Duncan learned a few tricks while he was with me, he learned how to give kisses in which when you made a kissy noise with your lips he'd lick you like a maniac.  He also learned how to "Wipe Your Boogers"  I would lay him on his back and say "Duncan wipe your boogers." and he'd begin rubbing at his nose.

He lived a great life with me and although he was spoiled rotten he battled with an ongoing impaction problem which eventually took his life on August 17th, 2008.
