My Story

I was driving and saw a sign free puppies, I pondered the thought of having a pet and so my cousin and I pulled in.  We were taken to the backyard and shown 4 puppies, they were part Sharpei and had tons of wrinkles.  I immediately fell in love with Shug!  I took her home and from that day she would snuggle on the couch with me!  I was single at the time and she was with me through thick and thin.  Shug had an accident in September 2003, she was in her kennel and somehow managed to pry one of the metal bars loose, I wasn't home and she got her tongue stuck on the metal and ended up chewing it off.  I came home to a kennel full of blood and I thought for sure that I was gonna lose her.  My neighbor and I took her to the emergency animal clinic and they could not reattach the tongue, they said take her home and let the swelling go down and see your vet in the morning. ( this is after they stitched the remaining part up)  I took my girl home, put her in bed with me and cried all night long thinking I had no option but to put her down.  My new husband came home that morning and we loaded her up and headed to our vet.  I was given the option of putting her down of feeding her with a feeding tube for 6 weeks and I chose the feeding tube. My vet performed the surgery and for 6 weeks I fed her with a syringe through a feeding tube.  She had the tube removed and she was her old self, she managed to eat and drink on her own, with just alot of extra slobber! But that was my girl, oh how I miss her! She lived a great life for 7 years after.  We lost her while we were on vacation, our neighbors that were dog sitting called us and let us know she passed and that he buried her.  I have a memorial in my back yard that I look at everyday and think just how lucky I was to have found her and how she helped me get through thick and thin.  Shug, mommy misses you so much and just know that I regret not being home everyday when you needed me! I LOVE YOU ALWAYS AND FOREVER!!
