My Story

This is the first time that I have ever made a memorial for one of my pets so just bare with me here. It's somewhat hard to know where to start, so I guess I will start from the beginning.  I'm not quite sure where Zelda was born or the exact date. I do know that she used to be a shelter cat. She was rescued by a loving couple before the shelter had a chance to euthanize  her. The couple ended up having a child together and found that the baby had allergies to their two cats. My boyfriend and I at the time found an add in the paper for the cats to be given away to a loving home. So we took in Zelda and her kitty partner Xena. That was back in July/August 2006. Zelda was four at the time and Xena two. We gave her the best loving and nurturing home that we could. Needless to say she was spoiled. She weighed 17 pounds. Hence the nickname, Big Mama Zel. We had been warned by the vets that her weight could cause serious health problems, even death. No diets did my baby any good. About 2 weeks before she died, she became ill. By the time we were able to take her to the vet , it was too late. The doctor did everything for her that he could but I guess it was just her time to leave this world. She had a fatty liver, which more than likely was caused by her obesity. Also because of her liver shutting down she had jaundice very bad. For whoever reads this, if you are an animal lover such as I am then you understand the great pain that comes with losing your furry companion. She was family in my eyes, like my child. I have lost a lot of pets before her, but they have all passed from old age. This is my first baby that I have had to lose to suffering and illness. She will be greatly missed. The black and white cat that are in some of the pictures with her is her buddy,Xena.

Here is a poem in memory of my sweet Zelda:

And God asked the feline spirit
Are you ready to come home?
Oh, yes, quite so, replied the precious soul
And, as a cat, you know I am most able
To decide anything for myself.

Are you coming then? asked God
Soon, replied the whiskered angel
But I must come slowly
For my human friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.

But don't they understand? asked God
That you'll never leave them?
That your souls are intertwined. For all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is........forever and ever and ever.

Eventually they will understand,
Replied the glorious cat
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am......forever and ever and ever.
